photoworkshop in Morocco

photo workshops Master Class Morocco

In the Master Class Morocco photo workshops you will experience the real Morocco. You will have lots of contact with the locals. Learn how to handle the people and available light with great care. Because we want to capture stories and preserve them in our pictures without violating culture and tradition.

From dawn to the harsh light-shadow conditions at midday, to soft evening light and darkness, everything will be included. We always work with available light. And always with respect for nature and people.

Procedure of the photo workshops in Morocco

Our photo workshops are highly individualised and tailored to the respective participants and lighting and weather conditions.

However, all of our photo workshops in Morocco have a few things in common:

A maximum of 6 participants:

The small group of 3 to 6 participants ensures that all participants receive equally intensive and individualised photographic support tailored to their needs. The small group ensures that the photographers do not get in each other's way in the narrow streets of Morocco or at the best viewpoints.

Assignment and image discussion:

In the photo workshops in Morocco, the participants are given photo assignments. During the photo review, everyone shows their best-off pictures and these are discussed together with constructive feedback. In this way, you not only learn to evaluate your own pictures, but also those of others. If you personally do not want an assignment or picture review, that is of course also ok.

Local tour guide:

A local tour guide accompanies us on all days. He not only introduces you to the culture and traditions of Morocco, but also ensures that we have contact with the locals, gain an insight into their lives and you can talk to them. The tour guide is also our driver, so you can enjoy a relaxed journey through Morocco and ask him questions at any time.

Eating with locals:

As far as possible (except for the Marrakech photo workshop), we try to eat once at a local's home. If you are lucky, you may be able to watch a meal being prepared and possibly help out when locals cook for us. A kind of ‘mini cookery course’ in which it is explained how the respective dish is prepared. However, there is no entitlement to these services, as the realisation depends on the travel times and photo stops.

Daily programme:

On the day of arrival, we do not meet until the afternoon so that all participants have sufficient time for the journey.

As a rule, we start the photo workshops in Morocco in the morning before sunrise and end them in the evening after sunset. This allows you to capture the beautiful light of the golden and blue hour in your pictures. Exceptions are possible at any time (see also programme and schedule changes).

We sometimes travel long distances on our itineraries, so we stop for a meal en route. We make several photo stops on our long routes, stop at good photo spots at sunset wherever possible and often have dinner en route. As a result, we often arrive at our accommodation late in the evening/night.

In Morocco, breakfast is only served before sunrise on ‘special order’, lunch can sometimes only be served at around 4 pm and dinner at around 9 pm or later. But don't worry, no one has ever starved on the tours and everyone has been well fed.

Respectful and appreciative photography of people in Morocco:

Due to tradition, culture and religion, it is not customary to photograph people in Morocco. Nevertheless, you can take wonderful photos and portraits as long as you follow the ‘rules’ and respectfully ask people for permission BEFORE taking the photo and show them the photo in the camera afterwards. Please observe this rule when you are travelling with us to avoid annoyance and resentment. Thank you very much.

Meeting point and detailed information for your photo workshop in Morocco:

Almost all photo workshops in Morocco offered here start and end in Marrakech (unless otherwise stated in the workshop description).

The meeting point on the day of arrival is usually in the afternoon due to flight times.

You will receive the exact meeting point and the exact time for the meeting point as well as all detailed information and the address of the starting riad (hotel) in good time shortly before the start of the photo workshop.

Depending on the time of booking and seasonal conditions, participants may be accommodated in different riads. We will then choose a riad that is convenient for everyone as the meeting point.

Programme and schedule changes:

The schedule and programme can change for all photo workshops in Morocco depending on the weather, light situation and local conditions. Please also understand that in Morocco it is rarely possible to give binding times and exact daily schedules. This also applies to the duration of our routes. Flexibility is very important in Morocco and we also work in this way to ensure that you bring home the best photos and experiences.

Note: Photo and film shoots during the photo workshop:

During the photo workshop, our participants may be filmed and photographed. With your booking, you agree that the photos taken of you during this workshop may be published on our website or our social media channels. If you do not wish this to happen, please let me know on site.

Help on site

I support people in Morocco with all photo workshops in Morocco.

You are welcome to bring old clothes, shoes, toys or electronic devices such as smartphones, which I can personally give to people in need on site.

Please bear in mind that many families in Morocco have to live off the tips you give them, as they have little or no income.
